I drive an eighteen tonne curtain sided truck for a North Yorkshire agricultural supply company. I didn't want to drive for a living but around three years ago i found myself in need of a job at the age of fifty. I have had an heavy goods vehicle license since I was twenty one and according to my license I am qualified to drive anything up to and including the old class 1. (for those who are too young to recognise this it means I can drive an articulated truck. At least theoretically.) But since passing the test at twenty one I haven't driven a class one vehicle. The only reason I didn't want to drive was that I have a dislike of sitting in stationary queues on motorways. But, thankfully, I spend very little of my working day on motorways. My loads are usually multi drop and are usually either to farms or to one of the companies stores. So, much to my surprise, I find that I usually enjoy my work, though there are some irritations but these are compensated for by the countryside I drive through. So I have decided to try to write a blog about my working life and see if I get any readers. By the way I have also published one e-book and am in the process of writing another two. I am writing fiction in the fantasy genre. What you may ask, does a truck driver know about fantasy? My answer is simple, if you have ever met or worked with a transport manager you wouldn't need to ask. ;-)
